What led me to work as a therapist...

I have worked for nearly 20 years as an English teacher, everyone always asks which school…but I did things a little differently. I set up a business ‘Language Work’ in 2006 and designed and delivered courses to 1:1 groups and individuals from all walks of life. It has been a phenomenal job and something I have truly loved doing. I take so much pleasure in meeting people and being part of their journey onto bigger & better things. I have worked with over 40 elite athletes, coaches and physiotherapists in premiership football clubs; being the go-to teacher for new international signings for Southampton Football Club (this gets me some friends!) I also spent 5 years working as an English teacher for children with SEN needs teaching literacy and emotional development. Other clients have varied from ESSO, BAT, Siemens to professionals, executives and individuals. The 2 things that are always important are; i) What are your goals? ii) How are we going to get there? (Hello, Solution Focused Therapy…exactly the same premise!)

It was while working with emotional support that the spark for therapy was ignited. I LOVED it! Working with adults & children in such varying settings, needs and abilities has given me a great set of resources to adapt quickly and create programmes unique to each client. When we can work in small groups or 1:1 and tailor sessions, progress can be (and very often is) PHENOMENAL. I found myself reading, researching and adapting and bringing about wonderful results. There’s not many things nicer than seeing someone who believed they couldn’t achieve something come to the realisation that they really can and then do!

After some personal experience with hypnotherapy (which brought about wonderful changes for me) I decided to train with CPHT for a double diploma in Clinical Psychotherapy & Hypnotherapy. CPHT is considered the gold-standard in Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy Training and I  am now studying the Advanced Diploma in Hypnotherapy. I have also trained with Karl Dawson, (a founding master in EFT, training with Gary Craig) learning Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), commonly known as tapping, this is a simple but effective method that works with acupressure points and releasing negative energy in our bodies. I am also a Level 2 Reiki Practitioner as I believe in a holistic approach; mind, body, spirit. Some of you may be nodding yes, of course…some may be thinking is this a little woo? Well, personally as a curious soul I am intrigued by the woo…but my need for evidence has led me to scientific support of all of these modalities. If you work with it, it works!…and the explanation of how and why it works will be a big part of our sessions. If you’d like to know more please do drop me a line…i’d love to chat to you more about how life can really change for you like it has for so many of my clients.
